Italian Triple Barrel Flintlock Pistol Pewter - Non-Firing
"Flintlock" pistols were so called because the lock uses a flint to strike sparks into the priming pan when the trigger is pulled. A small amount of gunpowder in this pan is ignited, which in turn ignites the main gunpowder charge in the barrel, firing the lead ball. Both the main charge and the ball were loaded from the front, or muzzle, of the barrel, after which the priming charge was poured into the pan - all very time consuming! Often the priming charge would burn but fail to ignite the main charge - hence the expression "flash in the pan"! The original of this particular flintlock pistol was made by Lorenzi in Italy in about 1680 and the engraved coat of arms is that of the famous Medici family. This Non Firing version of an Italian Triple-Barrel Flintlock Pistol Pewter, ca. 1680 is accurately detailed - a great costume or conversation piece.

Xtreme Synthetic Sparring Single Hand Sword-Silver Blade
Here is our Xtreme Synthetic Sparring Single Hand Sword-Silver Blade designed in conjunction with Dave Rawlings.

The blades are designed to flex in the last one-third of their length towards the tip, allowing for much safer thrusting than with conventional wooden wasters or shinai. The blade/tang joint is reinforced by a high tensile steel rod running along the full length of the handle, so removing the handle flex typically associated with plastic training swords.

The swords are modeled using dimensions similar to those seen on existing historical pieces and reinforced high-impact polymer is used in the standard guard and pommel construction. The ball shaped quillon finials and rounded pommels of the Longsword and Single-hand sword are designed for sparring safety, as are the pommel and basket of the basket-hilt sword.

The grips are manufactured from a rubber-like thermoplastic elastomer, designed to absorb the impact of strikes and to provide a tight fit on the tangs.

These synthetic swords are about two-thirds of the weight of a steel-bladed sword, heavier than most wooden wasters on the market but still having less impact than a steel sword, thus lowering the impact when sparring. The swords are well-balanced with a slight bias towards the hilt, again reducing the force of impact.

A key feature of the swords is their ease of assembly and dis-assembly which, when combined with the range of color options available for all of the interchangeable components, allows for customization of individual swords. Additionally, this dis-assembly feature makes for easy transportation. A brass nut is molded into the pommel, providing a tight metal on metal joint to the tang and compressing the slide-on grip against the guard.

These synthetic-bladed swords also provide an excellent option for theatrical use, being inherently safer than steel or aluminum. The variety of interchangeable parts also provides an economical means to create many different styles of sword on a single blade.

This sword features: Silver Blade, Black Guard, Brown Handle, Black Wheel Pommel

Overall: 41.5"
Blade Length: 34"
Handle Length: 4.5"

Point of Balance: 5.5"

The Fetter Lane Sword - 8th Century Saxon - Damascus Blade - PRS413D
This highly detailed sword recreates the fine swords available to champions, chieftains and kings of the late 8th Century and is closely based on the surviving components of the prized Fetter Lane sword which is part of the collection of the British Museum. The blade is damascus steel which was skillfully created when different steels were pounded and melded together into a single blade by the bladesmith. Original swords of this type had pattern welded blades and like Damascus they too had visible patterning which could be seen throughout the blade. The hilt is well-cast with a bronze finish; like the original it has different designs on either side of the hilt. Bands of polished tin adorn the guard and pommel - on original swords tin was valued as a decorative element because of its scarcity and likeness to silver in appearance. The composite pommel was riveted together in its final construction because original swords of this type had 2-part pommels which were completed by riveting a cap onto the pommel base.

Included with the sword is a wooden scabbard which is wrapped in tight leather and fitted with a bronze finished and locket; the sturdily attached wooden suspension loop enables the sword to be slung from your own belt or baldric.
